Student TV production airs tonight

April 22, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Many television viewers have spent "Just a Minute with the Chambersburg Area School District," but tonight they will have the opportunity to see a much longer student production.

The same students who have been scripting, taping and editing the 60-second spots that appear on many cable channels worked 19 hours to put together a 15-minute program on National Library Month, according to their teacher, Maureen Fiume.

The program will air at 7 p.m. on TV Cable Channel 16, which airs notices of local events and other public service announcements, said Fiume, a secondary seminar support teacher who works with students in the district's gifted program.

Tonight's rebroadcast is the first of a series called "On the Air with the Chambersburg Area School District." Fiume said it includes storyteller Cindy Keller, who is also the district's supervisor of libraries, and an interview with Librarian Sherri Maret about library technology.

Fiume said students will produce one program for each month of the school year. The May program will focus on the district's 1998-99 school budget, she said.

She said there are about eight students in the program, most of them eighth-graders. Fiume said the district is working in partnership with Pro Arts Recording and Sound Co. of Chambersburg.

Chuck Reisse, a technician with Pro Arts Recording and Sound Co., has been working as a mentor with the students, Fiume said.
