City man faces DWI, drug charges

A Hagerstown man was charged with drunken driving and possessing drugs Sunday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Jeffrey Todd Crampton, 33, of 617 Highland Way, was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies said.

Deputies stopped a 1985 Chevrolet Blazer at about 2:30 a.m. on Virginia Avenue at Wilson Boulevard.

Deputy Richard Schleigh noticed that the vehicle was speeding and moving erratically, deputies said.

Crampton was jailed Sunday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.

Driver nearly forced off Interstate 70

A Hagerstown driver was nearly forced off Interstate 70 Saturday morning after a vehicle deliberately swerved and struck another, according to Maryland State Police.

A 1994 Geo Tracker, driven by Jamie Allen, 26, of 9859 Crossfield, was heading east on I-70 when an unknown driver of a red 1985 Mazda RX7 allegedly began to make hostile gestures, police said.

Allen's vehicle slowed down in an attempt to allow the Mazda to pass in front, but the Mazda also slowed at the same time and then abruptly swerved to the left, striking Allen's vehicle in the right side, police said.

The force of the crash forced the right wheels to leave the ground, but Allen was able to prevent the vehicle from overturning, police said.

The Mazda continued east at a high rate of speed and exited at Md. 65, nearly causing another accident as it ran a stop sign and made a left onto northbound Md. 65, police said. The Mazda was last seen going up the ramp to westbound I-70.

The Geo Tracker was damaged on the left side, police said.

The occupants of the vehicle were wearing their seat belts and were not injured, police said.

The Mazda displayed Maryland tag 733 BDH, police said.
