Recycling center accepting appliances

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority now accepts appliances and ferrous and nonferrous metals at the Grapevine Road Recycling Center.

Washers and dryers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, hot-water heaters, electrical wiring and aluminum, brass, copper and other metals can be dropped off at the center on Grapevine Road.

Propane bottles, fence wire and cable are not accepted.

The recycling center has also expanded its hours, remaining open every Saturday throughout the year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The center will continue to accept yard waste, such as grass clippings, leaves and Christmas trees. It does not accept food scraps or wood ashes.


Paper products - cardboard, catalogs, computer paper, telephone books, newspaper and paper egg cartons - must be bagged, boxed or bundled with string. Wax paper, carbon paper, fax paper and hardback book covers are not accepted.

All aluminum foil, cans and glass bottles must be rinsed and lids removed.
