FREDERICK, Md. - A Virginia man was killed and a Frederick man seriously hurt Friday morning when their vehicles collided head-on on U.S. 15, Maryland State Police said.
David Allen Widmer, 35, of Lovettsville, Va., was northbound on U.S. 15 at 8 a.m. when an unidentified vehicle crossed in front of him at Basford Road, police said.
To avoid hitting the vehicle, Widmer swerved his Jeep Wrangler into the oncoming lanes of U.S. 15 and struck a pickup truck driven by Kelly Edward Deater of Frederick, police said.
It took 30 minutes for rescue workers to free Widmer from the Jeep.
He died on the way to Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.
Deater, 35, of 535 Wilson Place, was thrown from the truck, owned by Noah Electric Co. of Frederick, police said.
Deater was flown by helicopter to Washington County Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Friday.
