Contest winners named Saturday

April 16, 1998

Winners of the Poetry Contest sponsored by the Washington County Free Library and Antietam Review will be announced during a live broadcast from the library on radio station WQCM between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Winners do not have to be present at the library, but their poems may be read over the air.

Poems were sent by 178 people from the county and the Tri-State area.

There were five divisions: grades two and three, grades four and five, grades six to eight, grades nine to 12, and adult.

There were two winning entries in each category.

Winners of the contest will be invited to read their poetry at a reception at 7 p.m. Friday, May 22 at the Washington County Arts Council Gallery, 41 S. Prospect St.

The reception will be open and free to the public. Tickets can be obtained at the central branch of Washington County Free Library in Hagerstown after May 11 in the Children's Department.

The reception also will honor three poets, who will be featured in the June issue of Antietam Review.

The poetry contest and live radio broadcast are part of the yearlong celebration of the library's 100th anniversary.
