Skydiving plan hits snag

April 08, 1998

The announcement Tuesday that Phoenix Color will occupy a new $1.5 million hangar at Washington County Regional Airport has complicated plans to allow skydiving at the airport.

The new hangar is in the middle of the drop zone planned for skydiving.

Airport Manager Carolyn S. Motz said she will have to look at other areas for possible drop zones.

Motz said the county has received an extension to a deadline set by the FAA for allowing skydiving to April 22.

The FAA had threatened to cut millions of dollars in funding for the airport if the county continued to prohibit skydiving, which Motz opposes for safety reasons.
