Organic farming subject of meeting

April 08, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wilson College's Center for Sustainable Living, the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund and the Franklin County Coalition are hosting an event for township supervisors Saturday at the center.

The program will include a tour of the organic farm at the center and a presentation by the staff on the possible use of the center's farming techniques to Franklin County, Pa., farmers.

"This event is really focused on township supervisors in Franklin County - to give them a glimpse of an emerging new agricultural market that consists of organic produce and sustainable, bio-intensive farming," said Steve Moore, director of the center. "This new market is based on consumer demand and is growing at the amazing rate of 20 percent per year. For Franklin County farmers, this new consumer demand for organic produce could be a partial solution to declining farm prices in other areas."

For more information, call Steve or Carol Moore at 1-717-264-4141, Ext. 3247.
