Woman pleads guilty in theft case

April 07, 1998

A Hagerstown woman pleaded guilty Monday to stealing $48,000 from her employer over a two-year period.

In exchange for Pamela Sue Bard's guilty plea to a charge of theft over $300, 10 counts each of uttering and forgery were dropped.

Washington County Circuit Judge John H. McDowell postponed sentencing until a pre-sentence investigation is completed.

Bard was a bookkeeper at Dacor Lighting & Cabinetry Inc. on Western Maryland Parkway. The company's owners, Stan and Debra Valentine, reported the theft last Oct. 24.

According to court records, Bard forged Debra Valentine's signature on business checks issued to Bard.

After writing the checks, Bard cashed them or deposited them into her own bank account, court records said.
