I-70 sinkhole repair begins today

April 07, 1998

FREDERICK, Md. - The State Highway Administration will repair a sinkhole on eastbound Interstate 70 from South Street to Patrick Street beginning today, weather-permitting.

The sinkhole area is approximately 200 feet long and developed over the past several months under and adjacent to the roadway.

Single-lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. Weekend work is not planned, but is a possibility. No work will be done over Easter weekend.

The project includes pressurized grouting within the sinkhole to fill cavities and resurfacing the road. The work is necessary to stabilize the highway, improve road conditions and enhance motorists' safety.
