No funds for stadium in city budget

April 07, 1998

Funding for a new baseball stadium is not included in the City of Hagerstown's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

City Administrator Bruce Zimmerman said he didn't propose funding the stadium in the fiscal year from July 1, 1998, to June 30, 1999, because state funding for the project isn't forthcoming.

Zimmerman said city officials will try to get state funding during the next General Assembly session, which begins in January 1999. The current legislative session ends April 13.

If state legislators approve funding next year, the money wouldn't be available until July 1, 1999, he said.

City officials have discussed contributing $2.5 million toward the $10 million stadium project. The stadium site under consideration is near Interstate 81.
