CLEAR SPRING - A Mercersburg, Pa., man and his nephew were seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a car accident that wasn't discovered for more than three hours, according to a report by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Charles E. McCullough, 38, was flown to Washington County Hospital by helicopter and was in the emergency room Sunday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

His nephew, whose name, age and address were unknown, was taken to Washington County Hospital by ambulance, according to the report.

Since his name was not released, the boy's condition could not be checked.

A 1981 Ford pickup truck was found over an embankment at 14428 Blairs Valley Road by a passerby at about 6 p.m., the report said.

The truck ran off the road and over an embankment and struck a tree head-on, according to the report.

Witnesses told police they heard a loud crash at approximately 2 p.m., but when they looked outside they couldn't see anything, the report said.

Emergency crews from Clear Spring found McCullough trapped under the dash of the truck, the report said.

His nephew told rescuers that they had left the Hagerstown Speedway but he didn't know how he had gotten out of the truck, the report said.
