River warning issued

April 04, 1998

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police has issued an advisory urging people to avoid boating or other recreational uses of the Potomac River watershed through Monday.

The main stem of the Potomac remains hazardous, police said.

Fast, treacherous currents could confront tubers, swimmers, fishermen and others.

The warning does not apply to professionally guided river trips or teams of experience white-water paddlers.
