The Smiths

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998.

Together with family and friends, the couple were honored with a surprise event at Mountain Gate Restaurant in Thurmont, Md., Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998. They were presented with a cruise.

Mrs. Smith is the former June Landis, daughter of the late Birdie Mae and John B. Landis.

Mr. Smith is the son of the late Clara Belle and Truman C. Smith. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He retired in 1986 from Pennsylvania Railroad after 35 years of service and has repaired watches for 52 years.

They have six children and 14 grandchildren.

The Wolfensbergers

Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Wolfensberger commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at a surprise celebration at Williamsport Fire Hall.


The celebration was hosted by their children and their spouses, Randy and Cindy Wolfensberger and Bill and Diane Wolfensberger, all of Clear Spring, and Sandra and Mark Grove of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Approximately 75 people, including family and friends, attended.

The Wolfensbergers were married Sept. 19, 1947, at Grace United Brethren Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. G. I. Rider.

Mrs. Wolfensberger is the former Doris P. Toms, daughter of the late Ira and Thelma Toms. She worked at Ross Garment and the Bon-Ton.

Mr. Wolfensberger is the son of the late Ernest and Virginia Wolfensberger. He worked for H. L. Mills and Fairchild and retired from Rohr Industries.

The Wolfensbergers have nine grandchildren.

The Coopers

Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Cooper celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at a dinner and dance at the Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. 378. Approximately 100 people attended, including friends and family.

The celebration was hosted by their sons, Rick, Jeff and Curtis Cooper; their daughter, Cheryle Humphries; and granddaughter Amy Cooper.

The Coopers were married Feb. 21, 1948, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Simon Kenny.

Mrs. Cooper is the former Verna Bell Rowland.

Mr. Cooper is a retired building contractor and real estate broker.

They have eight grandchildren.
