Man pleads innocent to rape, kidnapping

April 02, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman and then bringing a notary public to her home in an effort to get her to withdraw her charges pleaded innocent Wednesday in Franklin County Court.

Curtis Lee McKeithan, 49, of 62 Fifth Ave., Fayetteville, Pa., was scheduled for trial in May, according to court records. He is out on bail.

According to court records, the victim was walking back to Franklin County Prison from a work release assignment on Oct. 29, when a car pulled up beside her. A man threatened her with a 9mm handgun and forced her into the car, court records said.

"I'll kill you and they will find your body up in a field someplace," the man told her, according to the Pennsylvania State Police affidavit. The report said the man sexually assaulted the woman along Stone Quarry Road in Guilford Township.

McKeithan was charged with rape, kidnapping and making terroristic threats and was released on bail on Oct. 31, according to court records.

In early November, court records said, a man went to the victim's house with a notary public and got the woman to sign a paper requesting that the charges be dropped. The woman told police she signed the paper out of fear.

McKeithan was charged with intimidation of a witness in connection with that incident, court records said.
