Shopping list forming for surplus funds
The Washington County Commissioners have been planning how to spend $730,000 of this year's estimated $4 million general fund surplus over the past month.
An additional $400,000 was spent for roads equipment out of a surplus in highway fund revenue, for a total of $1.13 million in surplus spending.
By spending the money now, the items won't show up in next year's budget as an increase in spending.
The surplus spending includes:
-- $165,000 to replace an obsolete computer-based management system for the Washington County Detention Center.
-- $65,000 for a case management system and computer upgrades for the State's Attorney's Office.
-- $206,000 for 10 new police cruisers for the Sheriff's Department.
-- $15,600 for lights and sirens for cruisers.
-- $17,500 for radios for cruisers.
