Woman charged in accident

A Waynesboro, Pa., woman was charged Wednesday after a vehicle attempting to exit onto U.S. 40 East from Interstate 81 went out of control, according to Maryland State Police.

Jennifer L. Jackson, 23, of South Church Street, was charged with negligent driving in the 3:30 p.m. accident, police said.

Jackson was driving a 1997 Hyundai south on I-81 attempting to exit when the vehicle went out of control and spun into the path of a 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Edna M. Oliver, 66, of Appaloosa Drive, Falling Waters, W.Va., police said.

The vehicles collided head-on, police said.

Both drivers were taken to Washington County Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

Fake prescriptionsbeing circulated

Area pharmacies are being asked to be on the lookout for phony prescriptions written on a prescription pad stolen from Dr. Shahab Siddiquie, Maryland State Police said.


In other cases:

* Damage and loss totaled $250 in a Tuesday burglary/theft at 22161 Pondsville Road near Smithsburg. Taken were a First Federal bank bag and two gym bags, state police said.

* A storage shed containing hand and power tools was hit by thieves Monday, state police said. The loss was estimated at $1,740.

* $200 in hand tools was taken from a home and shed in Brownsville Tuesday.

* A cassette player was taken from a vehicle parked at 20207 Robinwood Court Tuesday.

Man charged with drug possession

The street crimes unit took one man into custody Tuesday when they served a search warrant on 1040B Noland Drive, Hagerstown City Police said.

Darryl Heath Jones, 30, of 5000 9th St., Arlington, Va., was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was also served with a bench warrant.

Deputies respond to theft reports

Washington County Sheriff's deputies were called out on the following incidents:

* A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after being implicated in the theft of a $600 air meter from Chuck's Auto Body at 12008 Margaret Drive.

* A wallet and watch, worth $200, were taken Tuesday from a home at 11226 Greenmount Ave.

* Damage to a door totaled $300 at 16911 Pickwick Lane in the Lakeside Trailer Park Tuesday in an attempted break-in.

Va. man charged with sexual assault

FREDERICK, Md. - A Virginia Beach, Va., man was charged Monday after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted, bitten and struck with a beer bottle and a belt, according to Frederick Police.

Robert C. Merritt, 22, of 809 Seawinds Lane, was charged with third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault, police said.

He was released from the Frederick County Detention Center after posting $15,000 bond.

Police were called at 5:55 a.m. to the Comfort Inn on Prospect Boulevard, where they found a woman in a hysterical state, police said.

The woman told police that a man had accused her of infidelity, which she denied, police said.

She said he repeatedly beat her during the night and at certain points he bit her forehead and struck her with a beerbottle and a belt, police said.

The woman also accused the man of placing a belt around her neck and pushing her on the bed, holding a pillow over her face to keep her from crying out, police said.

The woman also said she was held down and sexually assaulted with the man's hand, police said.

The woman refused medical treatment, police said.
