4 recovering from stab wounds in attack

Two brothers and a friend were recovering from stab wounds received Sunday night as they were stopped at a traffic light at Washington and Locust Streets.

James Ollen Benedict, 18, of 17426 Rockdale Road, Clear Spring; Steven Scott Benedict, 23, of Conococheague Street, Williamsport; and Charles Edward Socks, 19, of 17127 W. Washington St., were listed in fair condition Monday night at Washington County Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A fourth person, Jeremiah Daniel Benedict, 20, of 212 Fairground Ave., was treated and released.

The 11:39 p.m. incident occurred when the victims' two vehicles stopped at the traffic light and another vehicle - a light blue Ford Escort with West Virginia tags - pulled up, according to police.

An occupant of the Escort stabbed all four victims with a sharp object and then drove away, police said.

The victims drove to Washington County Hospital and alerted police.

The motive for the attack was unknown Monday night, police said.

The only description of the attacker was that he was a white male.
