March 13, 1998

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Harpers Ferry National Historical park is seeking volunteers to assist in the various areas of park operations.

* Living History - This branch operates the 19th-century historic exhibit at the park, including dry goods and ready-made clothing stores, a blacksmith shop, military provost office, tavern, confectionary and machine shop.

* Park Library and Research - Assistance is needed to catalog books, enter card catalog data into a computerized library database and conduct routine research. Previous library work would be helpful, but not mandatory.

* Curatorial Services - An opportunity to work with historic objects and archival collections. Some typing and computer experience would be helpful, but is not necessary.
