Spelling bee set for Saturday

The 19th annual Washington County Spelling Bee will be held Saturday at Western Heights Middle School.

About 60 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students are expected to compete.

The eighth-grade winner will advance to the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee, to be held in Washington, D.C., May 24-29.

The spelling bee is designed to help students improve their spelling and vocabulary and to help them grow as competitors and individuals, said organizers.

The snow date is Saturday, March 21.

The Herald-Mail is sponsoring the spelling bee.
