Man charged in Franklin County, Pa., robbery

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Waynesboro, Pa., man charged last week with robbing a Hagerstown liquor store was charged Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police with robbing a Franklin County, Pa., market.

Kurt Adam Baer, 26, of 6633 Marsh Road, was arraigned before District Justice Shirley Shatzer Tuesday on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property in connection with a holdup Thursday at Earl's Market, 15755 Pennsylvania Ave., State Line, Pa.

Baer was released on $10,000 bond, according to Shatzer's office.

At 6:15 p.m. Thursday, a man walked into the store and demanded cash, according to police. The report said the man held his hand in his jacket pocket as if he were holding a weapon.

The man took $60 from the cash register and fled in what the report described as a small green vehicle with an unknown Pennsylvania registration.

At 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a man walked into Potomac Wine and Spirits at 725 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, and demanded cash. Once again, according to Hagerstown City Police, the man kept his right hand in his jacket pocket.

The robber left the store and got into a black Mazda Protege, but city police said the clerk followed him outside, shattering the windshield and passenger door window with a club.

At 11:15 p.m. Thursday, a vehicle fitting the description was found by city police parked on the 400 Block of North Potomac Street. On Friday afternoon, Baer, who fit the robber's description, was picked up by police on North Jonathan Street and charged with the robbery.

Baer was released later Friday on $50,000 bond.

Hagerstown police said they recovered $750 of the $1,250 stolen from the liquor store.

Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Dan Ames said Baer turned himself into police over the weekend.
