Amanda Klugh of Boonsboro was crowned Miss Washington County 1998 before an audience of about 250 people at Hagerstown Junior College's Kepler Theater Saturday night.

Klugh, an 18-year-old senior at Williamsport High School, sang "All That Jazz" during the talent portion of the competition. She is the daughter of Cindy Bowers and Ben Klugh.

"I'm very excited, and I can't wait to get started," she said after receiving her crown from Miss Washington County 1997 Toni Rickard.

Klugh, whose platform is "Helping Needy Children," said she already has started a program at her school and is looking forward to working at the county level.

For winning the title, Klugh received a $1,500 scholarship, other prizes and the chance to participate in the Miss Maryland Scholarship Pageant June 18 through 20 at The Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown.
