Bank branch to close Friday

WILLIAMSPORT - About 1,500 households served by American Trust Bank at the office in Milestone will have to travel an extra mile to do their banking by the end of the month.

The full service bank at 307 E. Potomac St., which opened in 1975, will close on Friday, March 27. Its operation will be consolidated with the main office in downtown Williamsport at 14 W. Potomac St., according to bank officials.

The automatic teller machine will remain at the Milestone location in the third drive-in lane, said Maureen Brewer, director of marketing.

All Milestone office employees will go to the Williamsport office, including Ed Hose, current market administrator who started the Milestone bank 22 years ago, Brewer said.

"We're just combining everything into one location," she said.

The bank sent a letter to its Milestone customers to let them know about the closing, Brewer said.

"We are putting forth a tremendous amount of effort because we remain sensitive to the Milestone area customers' needs," said Robert R. Wozniewicz, president and chief executive officer of the bank, in a prepared statement.

American Trust Bank is an affiliate of Keystone Financial Inc. of Harrisburg, Pa. Keystone Financial Inc. has assets of approximately $6.8 billion and has seven member banks.
