Teen charged in assault

HALFWAY - A Hagerstown teenager was charged with beating a 21-year-old woman and pointing a gun at her outside a motel room early Sunday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Shawn Jermaine Lee, 17, of 403 Park Place, was charged as an adult in the beating of the unidentified woman.

Sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police arrived at the Motel 6 on Massey Boulevard at about 3:40 a.m. for a report of a fight.

The woman had gone to the motel room to retrieve keys from a youth, who became angry, grabbed her by the hair and pushed her down on to the concrete sidewalk, deputies said. The woman's head struck the concrete, deputies said.

As the woman tried to get up, the attacker again grabbed her and struck her head against the concrete, deputies said. The woman almost lost consciousness, deputies said.

When a witness came to help the woman, the attacker went inside the motel room and returned with a handgun, deputies said. He pointed the gun at the woman and threatened her, deputies said.

The woman was able to get away and deputies confiscated a .25-caliber handgun.

Lee was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, wearing/carrying a handgun and use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence.

Lee was being held Sunday at the Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
