W.Va. man charged in 7-Eleven robbery

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Hedgesville, W.Va., man was charged Thursday in the robbery of a Martinsburg convenience store, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Charles Hubert King, 36, also known as "Ski," was charged with armed robbery, according to the sheriff's department. He was arraigned before Magistrate Joan Bragg and was being held Thursday night on $5,000 bond at the Eastern Regional Jail, according to the sheriff's department.

Detective George Swartwood of the Martinsburg City Police said a man robbed the 7-Eleven on the corner of King Street and Winchester Avenue at about 6 a.m. The robber left with about $60, he said.

About 90 minutes later, the Southern States on New York Avenue was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash after a man told a clerk he had a weapon, said Capt. Curtis Keller of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

After taking the money, the man fled on foot toward Fountainhead Apartments, witnesses told the sheriff's department.

No one had been charged in the Southern States robbery, according to the sheriff's department.
