Mr. Gardenhour is the son of the late Etta Coss Gardenhour and Joseph Arthur Gardenhour. He retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown after 25 1/2 years of service.
The couple has 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur A. Itnyre Jr. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at a surprise celebration hosted by their children and spouses, Ronald L. Itnyre of Hagerstown, Richard A. and Hanna Itnyre of Hagerstown, Linda S. and Dennis Witmer of Maugansville and Tami L. Sylvester of Maugansville. Helping to celebrate were six of their eight grandchildren, and four of their eight great-grandchildren.
The Itnyres were married Jan. 14, 1948, by the late Rev. Russell E. Hartle, Mrs. Itnyre's father.
Mrs. Itnyre is the former Louise Ruth Hartle, daughter of the late Rev. Russell E. and Josephine Hartle. She is a homemaker.
Mr. Itnyre is the son of the late Doris M. and Wilbur A. Itnyre Sr. He served in the U.S. Army and is retired from Eastalco in Frederick, Md.
A party was given in honor of Jack and Mary Kann of Hagerstown on their 50th wedding anniversary at Antrim House Family Restaurant in Foutainhead Plaza Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, by their son, Allen, his wife, Linda, and their grandson, Michael, along with family and friends.
The Kanns were married by the Rev. G.I. Rider Dec. 27, 1947.
Mr. and Mrs. Nevin L. Martin Sr. of Greencastle, Pa., celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary, Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Salem Ridge Mennonite Church in Greencastle.
The celebration was hosted by their children and spouses, Crystal and Joe Hulock, Carla and Nevin Martin Jr., Dale and Melinda Martin, Lisa and Steven Naugle and Melanie and Jeff Matthews. Approximately 65 friends and relatives attended.
The couple was married Jan. 1, 1957, at Marian's home by the Rev. Amos Martin.
Mrs. Martin, the former Marian I. Keener, is the daughter of Anna Keener of Chambersburg, Pa., and the late Paul Keener. She is the owner of Marian's Fabrics in Greencastle.
Mr. Martin is the son of the late Raymond and Mabel Martin. He is the owner of Nevin's Furniture in Greencastle.
The couple has eight grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry James McAbee Jr. of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Venice Inn in Hagerstown.
The surprise event was hosted by the couple's son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Mary E. McAbee of Hagerstown and their grandson, Brandon Allen.
The McAbees were married Dec. 12, 1947, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church by Pastor Edward P. Heinze.
Mrs. McAbee, the former Bonnie D. Boyer, is the daughter of the late C. Marguerite (Bowman) Boyer and M. Glenn "Gus" Boyer. She retired from C&P Telephone Co. as a service supervisor in February 1985 with 37 years of service.
Mr. McAbee is the son of the late Edith F. (Cunningham) McAbee and Harry J. McAbee. He retired in November 1984 as a senior procurement specialist from Westinghouse in Baltimore with 23 years of service.
A surprise 50th wedding anniversary dinner was held at Elks Club Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, to honor Emmert and Mary Stains of Hagerstown. Fifty of their friends attended.
The Stains were married Dec. 20, 1947, by the Rev. Edward Harms of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
The evening's festivities were planned by the couple's daughter and son-in-law, Pat and John Mertz, their grandson, Aaron, and their nephew and his wife, Harry and Mary Stains.
Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Apple of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Williamsport Community Building in Byron Memorial Park.
The celebration was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Douglas Hose of Williamsport. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren joined in the celebration.
The Apples were married Jan. 30, 1948.
Mrs. Apple is the former Ruth Holland, daughter of the late Orville and Catherine Holland.
Mr. Apple is the son of the late D.G. and Mary Apple. He is a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Victor Cushwa and Son for 18 years, then opened his auto repair shop, Apple's Garage.
