Foundation taking grant applications

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Applications for funding grants from the Jane P. Snyder Youth Fund are being accepted by the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation.

Tax-exempt charitable agencies serving youth in the Eastern Panhandle community can submit grant applications for projects that will meet the purposes as outlined in Snyder's will, including:

* Providing educational, athletic, academic, social, civic or community-based activities and opportunities for children

* Assisting sick, needy, dependent, neglected or disadvantaged children

* Helping improve children's quality of life and the community in which they live

Applications, which must be received by April 1, should be mailed to the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation, attention: Grants Committee, P.O. Box 645, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25402.


Each application must include:

* A description of the project for which funding is sought and how the project meets the fund's established purpose

* Proof of federal tax-exemption

* Current organization budget and financial statement

* Project budget with time table

* List of current officers and directors

* Any documentation and supporting material that clarifies the purpose of the project and/or its impact on children

Award recipients will be notified by May 15.

Berkeley County graduating seniors may obtain applications from their guidance counselors for scholarship funds administered by the foundation, including the Berkeley County Teachers Scholarship Fund for those pursuing a degree in education; the Martinsburg 200th Anniversary Fund; and the George W. and Holly Woods Scholarship Fund for African-Americans.
