Sheriff has deputy positions

MARTINSBURG. W.Va. - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department has job openings for sheriff's deputies.

The Deputy Sheriff's Civil Service Commission will give examinations for deputy sheriffs at 7 p.m. on March 19 at the Berkeley County Courthouse.

To hold the position, an appointee must:




* Become a resident of Berkeley County within one year of hiring.

* Be between the ages of 18 and 45.

* Be in excellent health and pass fitness standards for entrance into the academy.

* Have a clean police record.

* Have a high school diploma or equivalency degree.

* Pass civil service examinations and attend all training sessions.

Applications can be obtained at the county clerk's office between normal business hours, Monday through Friday, or received through the mail by mailing written request with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to County Clerk, Room 1, County Courthouse, 100 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va., 25401.

Applications must be returned by March 12.
