The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is hosting a birding field trip to the Shenandoah River from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

From Charles Town, W.Va., take U.S. 340 East toward Harpers Ferry, W.Va. After approximately four miles, turn left on Bakerton Road and park on the side of the road.

West Frederick (Md.) Middle School will host an orientation for parents of incoming sixth-graders at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the school cafeteria.

Leveling, curriculum and elective course selection will be among the topics discussed.




The staff of Windsor Knolls Middle School will participate in McEducator's Day from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the McDonald's in Mt. Airy,Md.

Members of the staff will serve as "employees," filling soda orders and handing out hamburgers.

Ten percent of the sales during that time will be donated to the school.




The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Berkeley County Courthouse in Martinsburg, W.Va., to discuss hunting and fishing regulations.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for anglers, hunters, trappers and landowners to discuss the 1998 deer, bear and turkey hunting regulations, 1999-2000 general hunting and trapping regulations and 1999 fishing regulations with law enforcement and wildlife resources section staff.

Similar meetings are being held throughout the state in March.




The Clean Focus Coalition is sponsoring a talent show from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 21 at the Bardane, W.Va., Community Center.

The event is open to groups and individuals, and there is no charge to enter.

Entries will be judged in four categories:

* Adult (18 and older)

* Senior Youth (14-17)

* Junior Youth (10-13)

* Combination (age-mixed groups)

Prizes will be awarded in each category.

Performances are limited to 10 minutes. Judges will include professional musicians and artists.

Admission for spectators ages 6 and older is $2 per person; those 5 and under are admitted free.
