Warnings issued for area rivers

February 21, 1998

Boaters should stay off the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers because of hazardous conditions, Maryland Natural Resources Police said Friday.

Boating and recreational uses of the rivers should be avoided because of high water, officials said.

The warning does not apply to professionally guided river trips or teams of experienced white water paddlers, according to a Natural Resources Police news release.

The latest river conditions are available by calling the National Weather Service at 1-703-260-0305.
