$2.9 million price tag on golf course

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - An Antrim Township golf course sold last week as part of a five-course deal went for almost $2.9 million, according to records filed Wednesday at the Franklin County Courthouse.

Greencastle Greens was purchased Dec. 8, 1995, at a sheriff's sale for $1.5 million by a partnership headed up by ESPN football analyst and former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski.

The sale of the 18-hole, 6,947-acre course on approximately 200 acres off Castlegreen Drive was announced Friday by Florida Golf Properties of Miami. Two courses in York, Pa., and two more in New Jersey that were owned by Ron Jaworski Links Inc. were included in the deal.

The deed filed with the Register and Recorder's Office did not list the sale price. The realty transfer tax statement of value filed with the office, however, put the price at $2.88 million.

The same document put the fair market value of the land at just under $2 million, based on its assessed value.

While Florida Golf Properties made the announcement of the purchase, the buyer was listed as Greencastle Golf Club Limited Partnership, with offices in McLean, Va.
