Master plan topic of public hearing
THURMONT, Md. - The Town of Thurmont is in the process of updating its master plan, which was last revised in 1988. The Thurmont Planning Commission voted to approve and recommend the master plan at its January meeting.
The approved and recommended plan will be forwarded to the Thurmont Town Board of Commissioners for a public hearing prior to adoption.
The hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 2 in the Thurmont Town Office, 10 Frederick Road.
The plan looks ahead 20 years to identify how and where the town should grow. The master plan consists of several elements, including environmental features, transportation, community facilities and land use. Each element also includes a list of goals and policies that would provide guidance for town officials as they make decisions regarding new development.
The plan update includes a comprehensive rezoning process that allows property owners and the town to initiate rezonings so the land use plan and zoning is consistent.
Written comments can be submitted to the town by those unable to attend the public hearing. Copies of the plan are available at the Thurmont Town Office; Thurmont Branch Library, 11 Water Street; and at the County Planning Department, Winchester Hall, 12 E. Church St.
