Lice treating tips

The Berkeley County Health Department offers the following suggestions for treating head lice:

* Treat the entire family when a child comes home with lice.

* After using a lice-killing shampoo, such as Kwell or A-200 Pyrinalte, use a comb to remove any eggs remaining in the hair.

* Wash clothing, bed sheets and towels in hot water, expose to a hot iron or tumble in a clothes dryer for at least one minute.

* Spray upholstered furniture, mattresses and car seats with an insecticide.

* To prevent infestation, never share combs, brushes, hats or scarves.

* Check children for any signs of lice by separating the hair with a tongue depressor and using a bright light to inspect the area.
