Delegation approves two requests

ANNAPOLIS - The Washington County delegation in the Maryland General Assembly approved two requests for state funding for local projects Friday and denied a third.

The first bond project would provide $250,000 in state funds for Girls Inc. in Hagerstown, to be used for the construction of a new gymnasium at the organization. The state money would have to be matched by other funds raised by the organization.

The second project is a $25,000 grant for the Rohrersville Band to use for improvements to its practice facilities.

The third request, by the Hagerstown Equestrian Association, was turned down after lawmakers said the organization needed more time to prepare its fund-raising efforts. The organization was seeking $50,000 in state funds, with a local match, to be used in its effort to build horse show center at the former Hagerstown Fairgrounds.
