A Martinsburg, W.Va., man was charged in a Jan. 28 armed robbery in the first block of West Franklin Street.

Glen Irvin Johnson, 27, of 7161/2 N. Queen St., was being held Tuesday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond. He was apprehended Monday night in the 100 block of North Burhans Boulevard.

The victim, Michael Paul Hoke, 19, told police he and his brother were on their way to a community center on Frederick Street to play basketball around 7:30 a.m. when they encountered a man previously known to the victim. The man walked with Hoke through some downtown alleys and when they got to the rear of the Chevy Chase Bank, the man demanded money, police said.

Hoke tried to talk him out of his demand but the man displayed a knife, repeated his demand and grabbed Hoke, putting the knife to his throat, police said. At that point, the man reached into Hoke's pants and took $60, police said..
