Antique ledger donated to Sharpsburg archives

SHARPSBURG - An antique store ledger was donated to the Town of Sharpsburg's archives collection during the monthly Town Council meeting Monday night.

The ledger was donated by Lily Grayson, of Sharpsburg Pike, who was not at the meeting.

The ledger has entries from March 1851 to March 1852 that will give residents a glimpse of the past, perhaps even their ancestors' purchases, said Pat Holland, who serves on the archives committee.

Entries include a local resident buying a blue comforter from Georgia for 50 cents and another buying a $2 looking glass, Holland said.

The ledger was handed down through the Grayson family, Holland said. Family members don't know where the store was or if the owner was a family member, she said.

Town Councilwoman Denise Troxell said she would hold onto the ledger until the town has a proper display case or cabinet. The collection needs to be organized for display, she said.
