City officials assessing county position on stadium

February 03, 1998

Hagerstown council members William M. Breichner and Alfred W. Boyer said the commissioners' address was encouraging.

Boyer said he's concerned the community hasn't come together to support the stadium project. It would be a shame if the area lost minor league baseball, he said.

Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II and Councilman Lewis C. Metzner said the commissioners' meaning wasn't clear.

Bruchey said he'd be happy if the county helped pay for roads and other improvements for the project.

Councilman J. Wallace McClure said he would decide whether to support the project after a task force studying the project's feasibility reports to the council this spring.

Councilwoman Susan Saum-Wicklein said she hadn't given much thought to whether the city should help fund a new stadium.
