Ride-along program offered
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Martinsburg City Police Department is offering rides to city residents who want to see what the job's like from behind the windshield of a police cruiser.
The ride-along program was begun two years ago as part of the department's community policing initiative, according to a department news release. It allows citizens to accompany a patrolman on a four-hour patrol, allowing them to learn about a police officer's job and gaining some insight into the criminal justice system.
Participants have to be at least 14 years old and there are some operational guidelines to meet, according to the department.
