Rusty water may clear up today
Discolored water probably will continue to run through the eastern portion of the City of Hagerstown's water system today, the head of the water department said Tuesday.
Water Department Manager Gene Walzl said he hopes the dirty water will clear up today.
Water crews were expected to continue flushing hydrants Tuesday night to monitor the water's clarity and to help clear the dirty water out of the system, Walzl said.
The discolored water was caused when the William M. Breichner Water Treatment Plant went on line Tuesday, pumping 4.7 million gallons of water a day into the system, Walzl said.
