City man charged with attempted armed robbery

A 19-year-old Hagerstown man has been charged in a Jan. 13 attempted armed robbery and is currently at the Washington County Detention Center on $30,000 bond.

Daryl Eugene Green II, of 228 N. Locust St., was picked up at the Department of Probation and Parole by Detective George Knight of the Hagerstown City Police.

Green is charged with attempted armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault and misdemeanor theft, Knight said.

The incident on Jan. 13 occurred at 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Franklin and Mulberry streets when Green and another man "helped" Robert West push his disabled vehicle, according to Washington County District Court records.

West, 37, address unknown, pulled out his wallet to pay the two men for their kindness when his money was grabbed and his assailants told him they had guns.

The victim ran away and a short time later, encountered Officer Tim Rossiter, who escorted him back to the scene. There they found that West's vehicle had been ransacked.

The second man is still being sought, Knight said.

Green's bond was kept the same Friday when he appeared before Washington County District Judge Noel Spence for a bond review.
