The Shepherd College Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the 1998 Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award. Given annually since 1959, the award will be presented during Shepherd's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 23.

Consideration for each candidate will be based on the following criteria: outstanding professional accomplishments, contributions to the community and support of Shepherd since graduation.

Nominations must be submitted in writing, including name, address and phone number of the person making the nomination. The deadline is Sunday, Feb. 1.

The Tuscarora Educational Foundation's third annual auction is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 3 in the auditorium of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, Pa., following a spaghetti dinner and student showcase.

The auction supports educational mini-grants that benefit students in the Tuscarora School District.

Individuals, businesses or organizations who want to donate a product or service to be auctioned can call the Tuscarora Educational Foundation at 1-717-328-2146 or one of the auction committee members: John and Beth Stoner, Ed Smith, Jim Zeger, Judy Chambers, Karen Maclay, Cheryl Gehr, Lisa Shaw, Jane Rice or Martina Fegan.

There is no charge to attend the auction.

Free applications for 1998-99 Federal Student Aid are now available.

These applications are the only ones students must file in order to apply for Pennsylvania grant aid for the upcoming academic year.

Information from the application is also used in applying for federal Pell grants, the new Keystone Stafford Loans, regular federal Stafford loans and other federal and institutional programs.

Friday, May 1 is the deadline for all renewal applicants, regardless of their program of study, and nonrenewal applicants who plan to enroll in baccalaureate degree programs, including those enrolled in college transfer programs at community or junior colleges.

Saturday, Aug. 1 is the deadline for nonrenewal applicants who plan to enroll in business, trade and technical schools, hospital schools of nursing or two-year terminal (nontransferable, two-year career) programs at community, junior or four-year colleges.
