
Drew Carey will host the 25th annual American Music Awards on ABC Monday, Jan. 26, from 8 to 11 p.m.
Award winners are selected by the public. A national sampling of approximately 20,000 people, taking into account geographic location, age, sex and ethnic origin, were sent ballots by National Family Opinion Inc. Names of the nominees on the ballot were compiled from data supplied by the music industry trade publication, Radio & Records, and the Soundscan Inc. Results of the voting are kept secret until envelopes are opened during the presentation ceremonies.
Nominations are in eight categories. Twenty awards will be presented.
Frank Sinatra will receive an award of merit. Performers scheduled to appear on the show include Mary J. Blige, Michael Bolton, Boyz II Men, Garth Brooks - who will perform a duet with Trisha Yearwood - Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, Janet Jackson, matchbox 20, Reba McEntire and Spice Girls.
