Overdose suspected in death

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Although toxicology test results will not be available for about a week, a drug overdose is suspected in the death of a Chambersburg, Pa., man found in a motel room Tuesday morning, according to Franklin County Coroner Kenneth Peiffer Jr.

Mark Andrew Brezler, 20, of 192 Echo Drive, was found locked inside a room at Carson's Motel at 414 W. Loudon St. at about 10:40 a.m. by police and rescue personnel, according to the police report.

Motel owner Bill Patel said Brezler didn't answer a 10:15 a.m. wakeup call he had requested when he checked in earlier.

When Brezler didn't check out, Patel said he tried to open the door to have the room cleaned, but it was locked from the inside with a chain.

Patel said he saw Brezler lying on the floor and when he didn't respond to repeated calls, Patel called police.

The ambulance crew determined Brezler was dead at the scene and the body was taken by the coroner's office for an autopsy, police said.

An investigation of the room turned up drug paraphernalia and seven packets of suspected heroin, police said.

The suspected drugs found in the room are being tested at the Pennsylvania State Police laboratory in Harrisburg to identify the substance.

Brezler's obituary suggests memorial donations be made to the Mark Brezler Drug Prevention Fund,

Brezler attended schools in Carlisle, Pa., and Chambersburg, Pa.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg.
