MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Massachusetts' No. 1 deadbeat dad was arrested this week by Martinsburg City Police.

Daniel Madrid, 41, of Beverly, Mass., was arrested shortly before noon Thursday, a police spokeswoman said. He was being held in the Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, according to a news release from Massachusetts Revenue Commissioner Mitchell Adams.

Madrid, described as a venture capitalist, was "more interested in the strength of his stocks than the development of his child," Adams said in the release.

A Massachusetts court in 1993 ordered Madrid to pay $2,180 a month in child support for his 5-year-old son, who lives with his mother in Gloucester. According to the Boston Globe newspaper, Madrid owes more than $116,182 in back child support.

No details of Madrid's arrest were available from Martinsburg police. He could be extradited back to Massachusetts within two weeks.
