Heidi Silver crowned Miss Berkeley County

 MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Heidi Janelle Silver was crowned Miss Berkeley County 1998 at Apollo Civic Theatre Saturday night.

Silver, a 19-year-old sophomore at Shepherd College, performed "Etude in A Minor" on the piano. She is the daughter of Michael and Shirley Silver of Hedgesville, W.Va.

"This is a dream come true. Don't wake me up," she said immediately after the crowning.

She received her crown from Miss Berkeley County 1997 Traci Staley.

For winning the title, she received $1,500 in scholarship money, other prizes and the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia Pageant June 25 to 27 in Clarksburg, W.Va.


Twelve contestants competed for the crown.

First runner-up was Rebecca Carr of Martinsburg, W.Va., an 18-year-old senior at Martinsburg High School. The daughter of Dan and Vicky Carr, she sang "As If We Never Said Goodbye," during the talent competition.

She received a $300 scholarship.

The second runner-up award went to Tasha Christo of Martinsburg, W.Va., the daughter of Monty and Monia Christo. She is a 23-year-old graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

During the talent competition, she sang "Go Away." She received a $200 scholarship.

Third runner-up was Jennifer Davis of Springfield, W.Va., a 21-year-old senior at West Virginia University. The daughter of Richard and Judy Davis, she danced to the song "How Do I Live" during the talent competition.

She received a $100 scholarship.
