A teenager accused of escaping from a juvenile detention facility has been apprehended and he and his alleged accomplice have been charged in connection with the escape, Maryland State Police said Wednesday.
Michael Keith Beers, 16, of Baltimore, was arrested without incident Wednesday morning, police said. He was charged with first-degree assault, escape and use of a handgun in commission of a felony, police said.
Beers escaped from the Victor Cullen Center in Sabillasville on Dec. 1.
Paul David Miller, 16, of the 1600 block of Rickenbacker Road in Essex, Md., faces charges of first-degree assault, aiding in the escape and use of a handgun to commit a felony in connection with the escape, police said.
He is accused of firing the gun to create a distraction in order to help Beers escape, police said.
Miller was charged last week by police in Baltimore County with wearing/carrying a handgun, transporting a handgun in a vehicle and possession of cocaine. Police pulled over his car on Md. 40 because it did not have a front license plate, authorities said.
