Barkdoll to work in support services

Former interim Superintendent of Schools Linda Barkdoll has been named assistant superintendent for support services, according to school officials.

Barkdoll, who earned $90,000 as interim superintendent, will make $69,579 in her new job, said John Hull, acting director of human resources.

Barkdoll headed the local school system for five months while the Board of Education searched for a new superintendent.

After Herman G. Bartlett Jr. was brought on as superintendent, Barkdoll worked with Bartlett to help him make the transition, officials said.

The assistant superintendent position has been open since Jim Lemmert retired a year ago as assistant superintendent for operations, officials said. Some central office staff have been taking over the duties since Lemmert left, officials said.

In her new position, Barkdoll will oversee the transportation department, facilities management, food service, budget and finance and data processing, said schools spokeswoman Donna Messina.

While Barkdoll will oversee the non-instructional operations in the central office, assistant superintendent for instruction Theresa M. Flak will manage instruction areas, Messina said.
