McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A Fulton County businessman has announced he will challenge U.S. Rep. Bud Shuster, R-Pa., in the Democratic primary.
Paul Politis, 49, of McConnellsburg announced his candidacy Wednesday for the 9th District seat.
"Bud Shuster uses his power and influence to primarily benefit himself and his big campaign contributors at the neglect and expense of the everyday people who gave him their trust by putting him in office," Politis said.
A spokesman for Shuster, chairman of the House Transportation Committee, did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment. Six candidates have challenged Shuster in the past 25 years.
Politis, a former reporter and editor for several small newspapers in central Pennsylvania, runs an automotive book mail-order business from his home.
