Pre-kindergarten classes won't move

Washington County school officials have decided against a proposal to move pre-kindergarten classes out of Robinwood Center.

Hagerstown Junior College President Norman Shea has expressed an interest in using the Robinwood Center on the college's property as a full-time day-care center for HJCparent students, officials said.

The Washington County Board of Education decided Monday not to move the pre-kindergarten program, said Ralph Kline, supervisor of early childhood and federal programs.

Kline said the pre-kindergarten program, which serves about 80 students, is a model for the state. Also, there was no place to relocate the students, he said.

The program is paid for in part by Head Start, which funds programs for economically deprived children.
