How to appeal your assessment

Those whose Washington County property was reassessed this year have until Feb. 12 to appeal the new assessment. Property owners should have received appeal forms with their reassessment notices.

Hearings will be scheduled for those who return appeal forms to the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation.

At a hearing before a state assessor, you will be given a chance to present evidence that your property has been overvalued.

If you disagree with the assessor's decision, you can appeal to the Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board, and you can appeal the board's rulings to Maryland Tax Court.
