FORT DETRICK, Md. - Fort Detrick's ID Card Issuing Office in Headquarters Building 810, will be closed Jan. 12-16 to install and train personnel on an upgraded speedier system.

The new system, Real-time Automated Personnel Identification System, will provide faster, more efficient and accurate service to sponsors and their family members, said Sgt. 1st Class Ciro Cano, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Military Personnel Division.

The week the office is closed, alternate locations at Fort Ritchie (1-717-878-5185) or Walter Reed Army Medical Center (1-202-782-7758) are available for ID cards and DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) enrollment or changes.

RAPIDS, a Department of Defense upgrade benefiting all the services, uses a bar code scanner and flashless digital camera.

"The verifying official can quickly and accurately access the sponsor's information with a swipe of an ID card," Cano explained.

For more information, call Fort Detrick's ID Card Issuing Office at 1-301-619-3241.
